CUYO. In the language of the indigenous people, the Huarpes, means "sandy country".
It´s the Argentinian region well known for their excellent wines, where the Malbec is the flagship. The Mount Aconcagua reigns over all heights and every shadow. From Cuyo, General San Martín projected and started the heroic deed of liberating Argentina, Chile and Perú from the Spaniard Colonial Army.
Mendoza, a province of Cuyo, is, maybe, the most enthusiastic of the off road sports. Many generations of riders had been starring at every dirty bikes race, off road and enduro or rally racing made in the south cone of américa. Geography and terrain are perfect. Riding a bike in back-country roads of Mendoza is as normal as taking a nap in the torrid summers.
Led and taught by the excellent local riders, we will again have our Off Road Training for big trail motorcycles. The team of instructors leaded by Diego Graziosi (BMW Motorrad Official Instructor) will have some of the Argentinian GS Trophy Team riders, as Julio, Julián and Gastón Quiroga, Diego Noras, Agustín Salanueva and Lucas Estuardo.
We'll ride on gravel and winding mountain roads. Thousands of turns and outstanding views. When riding off road, we'll use dry river beds. We want to learn how to "read" the different terrains. How to choose the best riding lines and how to build confidence and skills to ride our big trail bikes in these rough areas.
We don´t want to miss the "Pampa del Leoncito", in the near province of San Juan. It´s an old dry lake that resembles the Bonneville Salt Flats. We'll spend the night there, in the gorgeous town of Barreal, with the Mount Mercedario (6.720 m.a.s.l.) taking care of us. Another night will be spent at Penitentes Sky Station (2.600 m.a.s.l.). Lots of fun and thrills we´ll have when we ascend to the top of the border between Argentina and Chile, at "El Cristo Redentor" and it´s 3.854 m.a.s.l. From there, to Chacras de Coria in Mendoza trough twisty backcountry roads we will continue learning with our instructors, improving our skills and smiling like kids as the most difficult parts are falling behind.
Barbecues of lamb and steer meat. Homemade bread sandwiches somewhere in the hills. Malbec wines or unique signature blends from the terroir. All the strength and identity of the local cuisine and the kindness and warm hospitality of our dear friends.
