ATACAMA

Memories from the Dakar. The Puna. Desert. Uyuni Salt Flats.

Argentina - Chile - Bolivia

  • 29 Oct 2021 - 09 Nov 2021
The Dakar Rally, with its eleven south-american editions, filled us, the motorcycling passionate fans, with adrenaline and dreams. The Atacama desert was indubitably the place for the biggest audacity of all the participants of the rally.

This tour seeks to revive an edition suitable for all type of riders, but in the same magnificent scenarios and landscapes.

The Argentinian Plateau, called "La Puna"; Chilean Atacama desert and Bolivian Uyuni, the biggest salt flat of the world which is the same size of Jamaica or Lebanon. Everything surrounded by six-thousand volcanoes and fulfilled of lagoons and wetlands at high altitude. True oasis for the fauna of flamingos, foxes, llamas and vicuñas or small rodents and reptiles who had been barely survived in these hostile environments where the weather, the height, the solar radiation and the long distances are the hallmarks.

Our stimulated senses will remember for ever this unique and amazing tour. The gastronomy is high point. Andean flavors and aromas. Dishes that always stand the test of time. High altitude wines. Young and talented chefs, born and raised in the highlands, who have come to rethink from a current standpoint how to enjoy good food with an emphasis on the regional traditions. An invitation to end strenuous days on a motorcycle, enjoying exotic restaurants.

The heights, the silence, the vastness and the colours will immerse us in these magic Argentine roots. We will travel the line between past and present in one of the highest plateaus in the world, with an average height of 3,750 meters above sea level.

The immensity of the Salar de Uyuni will invite us to take pictures playing with perspectives, mirror effects or the confusion between heaven and earth; the long straights roads in the desert, where we will only see wild vicuñas, will take us to a unique feeling of freedom. The friendly and colorful llamas will highlight the existence of people who live their lives in places that seem impossible. The Yungas Forest will amaze us with the contrast of their deep and varied shades of green and the certainty that hide in the bushes, incredible animals such as tapirs, toucans, anteaters, monkeys or the magnificent jaguar will be watching for us.

We will drive through ancient and narrow adobe or stone villages and we will be able to appreciate, from a relatively close distance, half a dozen stylish and active volcanoes.

Cafayate and Cachi, in the Calchaquí valleys. The Abra del Acay with its 5,000 m.a.s.l. Sleeping at 3,900 m.a.s.l.  in San Antonio de los Cobres and then visit the La Polvorilla Viaduct, an engineering masterpiece of the Train to the Clouds. San Pedro de Atacama, the jewel of northern Chile with its wonders, the El Tatío Geyser, the astronomical observatories, the Moon Valley. Well known for being the driest desert in the world. Bolivia, with its contrasts and the energy of its people. Hotels built entirely with salt blocks from Uyuni. The towns of the Quebrada de Humahuaca, witnesses of human settlements for millennia. Wining roads, thrilling passes. More turns in good routes. Some gravel to test our capabilities. All this awaits us on this journey. Another classic that can become the trip of a lifetime!
